Key Motorsports officials announced Thursday the team has signed Paul Poulter of Fetcham Surrey, England to compete in a handful of Craftsman Truck Series races later this season.

Poulter will test with the team before running three to seven races, the team said in a news release. His first race with Key will be at the
Milwaukee Mile in June.

The 35-year-old Poulter drove in England’s Pickup Truck Racing circuit in vehicles that weighed some 1,200 pounds less with a smaller engine. He first tested with Key last fall at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C.

“For being in a strange race truck on a completely strange race track, and doing it while sitting in a seat that didn’t fit him, Paul was very
impressive for the first time,” crew chief Gary Showalter said.

Poulter hopes to eventually race full-time in NASCAR.

“I have followed the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for some time now and I am truly excited to have been given the opportunity to run with Key Motorsports,” Poulter said. “I loved the equipment when I drove it last year, and I was even more impressed by the changes that have been made to the trucks this time around.

“I am a little surprised by how easily I was able to adapt to the heavier trucks and larger motors, and I believe that I can compete if given the right equipment.”
