The National Stock Car Racing Commission has upheld the penalties NASCAR handed Germain Racing and driver Todd Bodine for infractions during the Craftsman Truck Series event at Daytona International Speedway.
NASCAR penalized Bodine’s No. 30 Toyota for having a device designed to reduce the bed panel height at the points of inspection. The team and driver were docked 25 points, and crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. was fined $10,000 and suspended until April 30.
Germain Racing argued that it was an inadvertent violation and that the materials added were an attempt to shim the rear spoiler in order to meet templates.
The commission, however, said the “clear round inserts added in the inspection holes on the rear spoiler prior to bed panel height inspection appeared to be a blatant attempt to circumvent the inspection process and a clear violation of the rules.”
Hillman Jr. worked two races during the appeal, and his four-race suspension will be adjusted.
Chairman George Silbermann, and commission members John Capels and Humpy Wheeler heard the appeal Tuesday.
