7 reasons to watch the Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway: No. 5 - Crashes

Talladega Superspeedway, more than any other track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup tour, is known for major crashes.
And they come in many forms.
There’s the spinning out of control and flipping wildly end over end umpteen times type that Rusty Wallace, Elliott Sadler and Matt Kenseth, among others, have experienced at the 2.66-mile oval.
Then there’s the soaring, airborne collision with the wall – or fence - like the one Carl Edwards endured after contact with Brad Keselowski on the final lap in April.
Perhaps the most common are those wrecks where no one flies through the air or tumbles down Talladega’s steep banks but multiple cars instead collide into each other and are reduced to little more than sheet metal by the time the dust settles.
While frustrating for crew chiefs and teams that put hours of preparation into their Talladega cars, all the carnage is part of what makes the Alabama track such a popular attraction among fans.
The nastier the wreck, the more exposure it will get on television and the more fans will likely want to watch.
Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 should be no different.
