7 reasons to watch the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway: No. 4 - Independence Day

Several signs point to what should be a fun race Saturday night in the Coke Zero 400.

• First, this year’s race is actually on July 4, Independence Day. That doesn’t happen as often as you’d think. The last time it happened was 1992. It’s a great opportunity to fire up the grill, invite some friends over and turn on the race.

• It’s the first restrictor-plate race since NASCAR started its new double-file restart rule. So far, that new rule has lived up to expectations
in creating excitement. Who knows how that will play out as leaders line up in the draft, but restrictor-plate racing is already crazy enough without adding this element to the mix.

• TNT is once again televising what it calls “Wide Open Coverage,” with split-screen action for commercials. A network executive boasts that in the past two years, TNT has missed a total of only 12 laps of green-flag racing.

So fire up the grill and get set for a fun evening.
