At many tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule, there are clear fantasy choice. And then there is Texas Motor Speedway.

The 1.5-mile track is similar to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway, but it has characteristics that make it its own – and make fantasy choices difficult.

Tier 1
Jeff Gordon

There is no consensus for Texas in this category, since several drivers have been strong there recently. So we’ll go with Gordon, who won there in April and has been solid on 1.5-mile tracks this year. But you also could do well with Jimmie Johnson, who has finished first or second in four of the last six Texas races.

Tier 2
Mark Martin

Martin is the selection over Juan Pablo Montoya based on three consecutive finishes of 12th or better at Texas, including two top-10s. But Montoya wouldn’t be a bad choice, either, for he seems to shine on 1.5-mile tracks.

Tier 3
Paul Menard

For the second straight week, we go with Menard. He seems to love Texas, and his finishes have been solid there. He started fifth and finished 13th there in April and has ended up better than 22nd in each of the three races in NASCAR’s new-model Cup car there.
