Kris Johnson joined Street & Smith's Sports Group in 2003. He is Assistant Managing Editor at NASCAR Illustrated and SceneDaily.com.

Kristopher Gross is 13.

Gross enjoys NASCAR, and he also likes to write. Those two qualities – along with the spelling of his first name – scored him big bonus points when the Lake Wylie, S.C., resident visited SceneDaily.com’s office in Charlotte.

As part of his job-shadowing experience on Friday, the aspiring journalist rolled out his picks for today's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. SceneDaily.com has added weekly predictions in advance of each Sprint Cup Series race this season.

The business of picking winners (unless you’re settling on Jimmie Johnson every week), to say nothing of top-five finishers, is humbling.

Gross was undaunted, though. Here’s his take on how things will play out at AMS:

Winner: Tony Stewart

“Everybody is picking Jeff Gordon to win on Sunday, but I’m putting my faith in Tony Stewart. Stewart hasn’t won yet this season, and I feel a win coming for him. He’s got a great pit crew behind him with Darian Grubb as the crew chief,” Gross wrote in his analysis before predicting today's top-five finishers.

Top Five:

1.  Tony Stewart
2.  Jimmie Johnson
3.  Jeff Gordon
4.  Carl Edwards
5.  Mark Martin

Gross, a fan of Edwards, is going it alone with Stewart – as none of SceneDaily.com’s staffers settled on Smoke as today's winner. Based on our selections so far this season, you’d have to give the advantage to Gross.
