Hall of Fame voting begins soon
Information regarding the 25 nominees for next year’s inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be delivered to members of the voting panel sometime within the next week.
That means voters will have roughly six weeks to digest the material and attempt to form some kind of decision. The panel will convene Oct. 14 to hear reviews of the individual nominees and will vote later that day to select the first five members of the hall.
Is anyone a lock for the first year’s class? I originally thought so, but now I’m not so sure.
• NASCAR’s final off week for the Cup series has come and gone. The next break won’t arrive until a new champion has been determined. The National Football League season, which hasn’t begun yet, will be well past halfway by then. Yes, the Cup season does seem to go on forever.
• Ticket sales for this weekend’s Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway have already surpassed the total sold for last year’s event, according to track officials. That’s good news for one of the series’ fastest tracks and for the sport as a whole.
And it probably means that Vice President and General Manager Ed Clark will be putting on his chef’s hat. Clark promised employees in the ticket office that he would cook them a meal if they met certain sales goals.
“As hard as they’ve worked, I’ll probably have to cook for them now regardless,” Clark said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the job everyone’s done here.”
