Weather forecast just peachy for Atlanta Motor Speedway

March 5 2009

I would hate to jinx the weather by writing this blog, but unless someone in NASCAR decides to cuddle with a black cat or decides to run laps under a ladder, it appears there's going to be plentiful sunshine at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.

That's a good thing for drivers and teams, because all three of this season's races have been affected by weather.

Daytona was a rain-shortened race; parts of the California race were delayed by rain, and many teams were "stuck" in Las Vegas for an extra night after a huge snowstorm hit their home bases outside Charlotte.

But the forecast for Atlanta says that Friday will be sunny and 71 degrees; Saturday will be sunny and 74, and Sunday will be partly cloudy and 73.

None of the days has more than a 10 percent chance of rain. For fans used to braving some freezing temperatures at the spring Atlanta weekend, this is a pretty good deal.

And, of course, weather forecasters are NEVER wrong, so we're practically guaranteed to have a rain-less weekend.

On second thought, better knock on wood or at least bring a few lucky charms to make sure.
