Contingency trophies are pretty sweet

I never realized until the other day how cool it is for drivers to win a season-long contingency award.

After a tour of the WIX Filters headquarters in Gastonia, N.C., Brad Keselowski sat down for an interview next to a beautiful black trophy that is awarded to the driver who earns the WIX lap leader honors the most times in a season.

Keselowski has a four-race lead in the Nationwide Series version of that competition heading into tonight's event at Bristol with only 10 races to go. And peering over at the trophy, which looks like a tall vase with two carved handles, seemed to be extra incentive to seal the deal.

"That’s a nice-looking trophy," he said. "I don’t have many cool-looking trophies like that."

You can see the contingency award standings in Scene every week, though to be honest, I usually don't pay too much attention to the season-long race. But after seeing the WIX trophy, I'll admit I'm a bit more curious.
