All bets paid in full
FORT WORTH, Texas – My bet with Kyle Busch has been paid up – at least in my mind.
Apparently, he disagrees.
Last week, I covered the WWE “Raw” show in Buffalo, N.Y., that was hosted by Busch and Joey Logano.
During some downtime, I told Busch I’d give him $5 if, like Ricky Bobby in “Talladega Nights,” Busch said, “That. Just. Happened” in victory lane someday.
“One hundred,” he replied.
“A hundred?” I said. “I can’t afford that!”
“All my bets are $100, man,” he said matter-of-factly.
That was playing out of my financial league, so I told him I could only do $5. There was no official handshake, so I wasn’t sure if he’d come through.
But it didn’t take long for him to deliver.
Busch won the Camping World Truck Series race a few days after our wager – coincidentally at Talladega – and when he climbed from the truck, the first words out of his mouth on live television were, “That just happened.”
In my mind, that was worth some major cool points for Busch – along with $5.
So on Friday morning at Texas Motor Speedway, I waited outside his hauler before the first practice of the day and greeted him by holding out a five-dollar bill.
"Five? It was a hundred!" Busch said.
He refused to take the money, so I handed it to his public relations representative Bill Janitz.
"Now you need $95 more," Janitz said with a smile.
