FR9 engine ready to rev up Ford Racing
Let's face it, Ford Racing hasn't had all that much to celebrate during the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
The season started with a bang as 2003 Cup champion Matt Kenseth won the Daytona 500 and then followed it up the next week with victory at California's Auto Club Speedway.
It appeared then that Kenseth would again make NASCAR’s Chase For The Sprint Cup, but the driver of the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford seldom appeared competitive after that and missed the 12-driver cut for the first time since the Chase’s inception in 2004.
Ford Racing, however, might finally have found an answer to its lack of success this season with the rollout of its FR9 engine this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
Kenseth and teammate David Ragan will use the FR9 engine this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, with a complete rollout midseason next year.
It appears engine builder Doug Yates, son of legendary engine builder Robert Yates, might finally have found a power plant to take on the likes of Chevy-powered Hendrick Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing.
