Enough already about Jimmie Johnson
If I hear one more person say to me that NASCAR needs to do something about Jimmie Johnson's dominance in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, I think I'm going to scream.
Even at Thanksgiving, my middle brother didn't waste any time informing me that he's sick and tired of seeing Johnson win all the time. He also complained to me that NASCAR is boring and that Johnson is stinking up the show.
I made it clear to my brother that instead of complaining about Johnson's dominance, he should relish in his accomplishment and realize Johnson is doing something here that might never be done again.
I'm sure my brother isn't the only NASCAR fan complaining about Jimmie Johnson. For some reason, sports fans don't like to see teams dominate, but they need to understand that these things just have a way of happening.
Since I spent my Thanksgiving up in Boston, let's take a peek at the Celtics’ magnificent run during the late 1950s and into the 1960s. From 1959 to 1966, the Celtics won eight straight NBA championships. In 1967, the Celtics failed to reach the finals, but returned a year later and closed out the decade by winning in 1968 and 1969. No other team in NBA history has since won like the Celtics did during that 10-year span.
While Johnson might not win as many championships as the Celtics did during that stretch during the 1960s, it's important to recognize greatness. And what Johnson has accomplished is really great.
