Double file-doubled excitement
As a fan, I loved the double-file restarts Sunday at Pocono Raceway. They did exactly what was promised, which was to create a bit more excitement.
NASCAR, this could possibly be one of your better decisions this season. Thanks for listening.
If I had to take a quiz on the subtle points of the new restart, however, I probably wouldn’t “ace” the exam. But I do understand the fast cars are up front, and the leader gets to pick the inside or outside lane. Faster cars together mean more competition, and after several “snoozer” races this season, I’m all about better and more competition.
Pocono certainly validated that each week’s race is worthy of “shoot-out” style. We fans may only have the opportunity to attend a few races each season. Ticket costs are high, and double-file restarts will go far in making sure fans get their money’s worth at every race.
Postrace interviews already had grumblings from some drivers who weren’t too keen on the new restart. But I say, line them up double and race!
