Jeremy Mayfield calm, cautious in interview
A lot of people have asked me what Jeremy Mayfield was like when he talked to a handful of reporters Saturday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
Mayfield was the same Mayfield I’ve always seen. He was standing atop a hospitality hauler talking to one media member when he saw a group of media camped out down below. He came down from the hauler and didn’t try to run away from us.
I’ve never found Mayfield to appear nervous, and he didn’t seem nervous or squirmy when he talked. About the only thing different is that he thought a little bit more about what he was saying – as he admitted he didn’t want to say anything that could impact his legal options.
But Mayfield was his typical self when talking about himself and his future. He was polite. He was fairly blunt. He answered some questions with rhetorical responses. He often said he couldn’t say much more to us, and then we, as media, pried a little further, he remained polite while trying to end the conversation.
Did everything he said make total sense? Not really, but then again, that’s really nothing new with Mayfield, who is one of those drivers who tends to speak quickly and whose thoughts jump around.
Did he sound like a guilty/desperate man or a man who has gotten the shaft? It’s hard to say. He sounded like a man worried about his future. And that’s about all I could gather.

May 18, 2009 at 9:49 AMDon't go away Mad, just go away. Jeremy could have only tried it once. I don't care. He is a disgrace to everyone in the NASCAR family. He has been fired by 8 owners in 15 years. He has said distasteful things about everyone of them. And now he is on the short end of the rope with no one wanting to help him. I wonder why. I hope he never comes back. He came into the infield and when up on the National Guard Hospital bus like everything was alright knowing perfectly well he was banned from the track and not caring about NASCAR's rules. I'm glad they made him leave, hes a disgrace.

Jeremy has taken drug testes for Nascar in the past and hasn't popped before so it doesn't sound to me like he is a drug addict as you are trying to paint him to be. When Nascar first announced the results they said it was a drug of "concern" then 3 days later it is a seious offense. I have taken many of Drug tests in my life(i serve in the military) and each one of them I knew what they were testing for. Nascar is trying to save face big time. They let him Practice twice and quilaify as well after Nascar had results of a so called serious offense in the drug program. Go look at articles and quotes from Nascar you will see some back peddleing

Only thing is, it's been proven that Jeremy didn't lie. Ray was concentrating on that "fiery, red headed daughter he never had."
